Event is FINISHED
Orchard Road - the name conjures up visions of glitzy shops, glamorous hotels & hi-end restaurants run by celebrity chefs. But dig a little deeper and you’ll unearth much less known nooks & crannies which bear testament to its earlier years as an area replete with plantations, farms - & yes, orchards!
Tuesday June 20's Discovery Walk- The Hidden Treasures of Orchard Rd
And just to prove this is a different Orchard Road, we'll start at the very...end! Starting at Dhoby Ghaut to learn the origins of its name, we'll visit one of the oldest churches in Singapore known as the “Scots Church”, nestled in beside Singapore’s incubators for art talents - SOTA and LaSalle. A walk past the Istana Park for a glimpse of the official residence of the President of Singapore will remind us Singapore’s colonial roots, & you can also admire the nearby facade of the last remaining traditional southern Chinese mansion.
And finally you will be blown away by the beauty of Emerald Hill with its Peranakan shophouses, a tucked away enclave of tranquility a stone's throw from hustle and bustle of the Orchard shopping district.
Small walking tours will have a maximum of 10 participants but also need a minimum number of 7 to go ahead; if we don't have enough people we will inform those who have registered (& refund their payment) by the evening before at the very latest. But we hope they will always run!!
Please note that the cost of these tours is a little higher as we are keeping the number small. The quality will be however very high; see comments below from our last one at the end of January which was a prototype for this new series:
"I would like to thank you for the tour yesterday, it’s been a wonderful morning! Your guide is amazing and so expert about history".
"I just wanted to let you know that my aunt had a brilliant time yesterday. She couldn't say enough about the tour and how great your guide was. Thanks so much! I will certainly recommend you".
"Your guide was WONDERFUL! We all enjoyed her. I'm looking forward to the next tour."
